The E in ESG stands for Environmental.

As a developer and manufacturer of high-quality products and a responsible employer, we pursue the goal of combining technological innovation with environmental protection. As an internationally active company with subsidiaries in Germany, Great Britain, China and Turkey, we implement an environmental policy that is both sustainable and economically viable.

Our environmental inititives include:

  • Use of renewable (green) electricity
  • Certified environmental management systems
  • Resource-efficient office processes, such as the use of recycled paper
  • Support for reforestation projects to offset unavoidable emissions and protect biodiversity

Our approach focuses on reducing environmental impact through efficient resource use, environmentally compatible materials and continuous process optimisation. Employees are actively encouraged to contribute to these goals through responsible day-to-day practices and awareness of environmental impacts.

The foundation of our environmental activities is a certified environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001, which ensures structured targets, monitoring and continuous improvement. In parallel, occupational health and safety are governed by a management system based on ISO 45001. Beyond our own operations, we support selected initiatives that promote ecological sustainability along the value chain.

Green electricity through photovoltaic

Our photovoltaic system, which is installed on the roof of our logistics centre at the corporate headquarters in Wolfschlugen, has been producing green electricity since October 2017 on an area of 6,300 square metres with 1,532 solar modules.

In 2020, we generated 389,828 kWh of electricity. We use this for our own consumption, the surplus is fed into the public energy grid.

ISO 14001

We have been certified according to the environmental management standard DIN EN ISO 14001 since 2008.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard that defines requirements for an environmental management system.

At ARNO, ISO 14001 certification forms the foundation of our environmental policy. Within this management system, environmental requirements and legal obligations are regularly reviewed and documented. On this basis, new sustainability targets are defined each year to continuously improve our environmental and climate performance.

Environmental criteria are also taken into account in supplier selection, with preference given to partners that are certified according to ISO 14001 and offer environmentally compatible materials.

Pro-Recycled Paper Initiative

We consistently focus on sustainability in our printing and use Blue Angel certified recycled paper. According to the Initiative Pro Recycling Paper, recycled paper bearing the Blue Angel ecolabel uses up to 70% less water and 60% less energy in production.

As a participant in the initiative CEOs bekennen Farbe (CEOs show their colours), we publicly support and commit to the pro-recycled paper initiative. With its excellent eco-balance, recycled paper with the Blue Angel is the product of choice for us in all areas of the company.

Reforesting

We support various initiatives and get involved when it comes to ecological sustainability along the value chain - for example, the non-profit organisation Aktion Baum. In recent years we have donated to the reforestation of local forests.

The non-profit organisation attaches great importance to reforesting regional, biodiverse forests in Germany. Together with scientists and tree experts, the non-profit organisation works to reduce the cost of producing a tree.

Since the entire value chain, from the extraction of seeds to sowing and planting, is in the hands of the non-profit organisation, the current expenditure of around 35 euros can be reduced.
