The E in ESG stands for Environmental.

For us as a developer and manufacturer of high-quality products and as a responsible employer, it goes without saying that we do our bit to preserve the environment. As an internationally active company with subsidiaries in Germany, Great Britain, China and Turkey, we are committed to a sustainable, economically compatible environmental policy. A harmonious coexistence between man and nature is our focus. We want to harmonise technology, progress and the right of future generations to an intact environment. Therefore, we actively encourage our employees to live environmental protection, to optimise the use of resources and to promote the use of environmentally compatible products. The basis of our environmental policy is certification and continuous improvement in accordance with ISO 14001. In parallel to our environmental management system, we have drawn up an occupational safety concept to ensure occupational health and safety, which is based on the current ISO 45001. In addition, we support various initiatives and get involved when it comes to ecological sustainability along the value chain.

Carbon neutrality

A milestone in our company's history: The photovoltaic system on the roof of our headquarters, in combination with our efforts to reduce our energy consumption, means that ARNO has been carbon neutral in 2020 for the first time!

Savings measures have included

  • The reduction and conversion of forklift trucks to electric power
  • The replacement of thermostats with government models
  • The switch to ultrasonic welding
  • The improvement of our recycling processes

Through a plan of action, the goal for us is to continue to make our contribution to climate neutrality in the future.

Green electricity through photovoltaic

Our photovoltaic system, which is installed on the roof of our logistics centre at the corporate headquarters in Wolfschlugen, has been producing green electricity since October 2017 on an area of 6,300 square metres with 1,532 solar modules.

In 2020, we generated 389,828 kWh of electricity. We use this for our own consumption, the surplus is fed into the public energy grid.

ISO 14001

We have been certified according to the environmental management standard DIN EN ISO 14001 since 2008.

The basis of our environmental policy is certification and permanent improvement according to ISO 14001. Within the framework of this standard, our environment-related regulations are regularly monitored.

New sustainability targets are set annually to support us in our efforts to continuously improve our carbon footprint. When selecting our suppliers, we also ensure that they are certified according to ISO 14001 and offer environmentally compatible materials.

Together with our suppliers, it is our aim to promote sustainable forest management.

Pro-Recycled Paper Initiative

We consistently focus on sustainability in our printing and use Blue Angel certified recycled paper. These paper fibres are obtained 100% from waste paper and use 70% less water and 60% less energy in production than ordinary paper.

As a participant in the initiative CEOs bekennen Farbe (CEOs show their colours), we publicly support and commit to the pro-recycled paper initiative. With its excellent eco-balance, recycled paper with the Blue Angel is the product of choice for us in all areas of the company.

Reforesting

We support various initiatives and get involved when it comes to ecological sustainability along the value chain - for example, the non-profit organisation Aktion Baum. In recent years we have donated to the reforestation of local forests.

The non-profit organisation attaches great importance to reforesting regional, biodiverse forests in Germany and Europe. Together with scientists and tree experts, the non-profit organisation works to reduce the cost of producing a tree.

Since the entire value chain, from the extraction of seeds to sowing and planting, is in the hands of the non-profit organisation, the current expenditure of around 35 euros can be reduced.
